The Japanese Royal House Agency is evaluating the decision of Princess Mako - granddaughter of the current Emperor Naruhito - not to receive the government compensation that is rightfully due to her after marriage.

If the proposal is accepted, it would be the first time since the end of the Second World War.

The 29-year-old princess is about to marry her bourgeois boyfriend, her peer and former college friend, Kei Komuro, and for this reason she will lose the royal title.

The compensation - amounting to approximately 152 million yen (1.17 million euros) - was designed to guarantee "the maintenance of a dignified life" after removal from the royal family.

The princess has made it known that she intends to refuse the allowance after the criticisms raised by the media about the marriage about a financial dispute involving Komuro's mother and her former partner, who allegedly funded the young man's education. Last April, Komuro himself - who is studying in the United States to obtain a major in law - made a commitment to personally repay the sum of money.

The wedding between the two young people had been announced in November 2017, but a few months later, in February 2018, the same princess, through the agency of the Royal House, was forced to rectify the program, speaking of the "lack of adequate preparation for an event of this magnitude ".

At the end of last year, Prince Akishino, Mako's father and younger brother of the current ruler, had said he was in favor of the marriage of his eldest daughter, putting an end to the postponements.

By October the couple should get married in the Tokyo Municipality, where - according to rumors - a solemn ceremony will not be scheduled.

After the wedding, Mako will leave the capital and follow her husband to the USA.
