Nightmare for about thirty Sardinians stranded at the Athens airport, they should have returned to Cagliari on a Volotea flight scheduled for 11pm yesterday . The odyssey for tourists on holiday in Greece began in the early afternoon, due to the delay of the flight from Mykonos , which instead of leaving for the Greek capital at 5 pm, only got off the ground at 10.20 pm.

«When we arrived in Athens it was 11pm and the check-in had just closed the doors - says Lorena Piddiu, from Pula -, at the beginning we thought we had missed for a few minutes the connection that would have brought us back to Sardinia, but in in reality the plane was still on the runway: in the end it took off at 1 in the morning, and despite being two hours late they prevented us from boarding . For my family and many other travellers, including a pregnant woman, it was a terrible night: many slept on the floor, the airline didn't offer us even the slightest assistance, we didn't even get a glass of water . We felt abandoned, and even further away from home.

The Sardinians who were unable to leave yesterday should return to the island during the day: «To guarantee the return home for me, my husband, my children and my parents , I had to spend thousands of euros for a new ticket – says Lorena Piddiu -, the one at Athens airport, where we were thrown from one counter to another without getting the right assistance, for us and many other passengers left on the ground it was a terrible experience . We will return home in the afternoon with a flight from Ita, hoping to leave this ugly story behind us soon".
