Italian climber Luca Sinigaglia died on Pik Pobeda (whose peak is almost 7,500 meters) in Kyrgyzstan, on the border with China, while trying to save a Russian climbing partner who had broken her leg during a descent.

Sinigaglia, a 49-year-old from Milan, has been deeply mourned by the mountaineering world. Numerous messages of condolences to his family have appeared on Sinigaglia's social media profiles. "You're a hero," many of the 49-year-old's followers wrote.

According to reports, the Russian mountaineer, Natalia Nagovitsyna, 47 , is still stranded. Therefore, three Italian rescuers will attempt a helicopter rescue in the next few hours, also attempting to recover Senigaglia's body, which is believed to be in a cave at an altitude of 6,900 meters.
