India has landed on the moon .

The Indian mission Chandrayaan-3 was a success : after the start of the command sequence for the automatic landing, the Vikram lander activated the engines for the approach to the ground. The country becomes the fourth nation to land on the moon , while it is the first to land near the south pole, in a region potentially rich in water ice useful for future human missions.

The space adventure was followed by millions of television viewers across the country . Launched last July 14 from the Satish Dawan Southern Space Center, the mission has already seen the successful detachment of the descent module (lander) from the propulsion module, which will continue its journey in the orbit reached for months, perhaps years.

Now the Pragyan rover is expected to be released, a six-wheeled robot equipped with an X-ray spectrometer and a laser spectroscope. The historic milestone comes after the failure - which occurred a few days ago - of Russia, in the race with the Luna25 lander to reach the same corner of the terrestrial satellite.
