Mexico is plunged into chaos and violence after the operation that led to the killing of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes 'El Mencho' , the head of the Jalisco cartel.
Security forces had announced in the last few hours the killing of the founder and leader of the country's most feared criminal gang . The news was later confirmed by the United States, with the raid sparking violent clashes between drug gangs and police forces.
In several states , fires, roadblocks and panicked civilians fleeing have been reported.
Authorities have so far certified the deaths of 26 people, including a pregnant woman and 17 law enforcement officers.
Many airlines have suspended flights to Mexico, while the Farnesina is monitoring developments and urging Italians there to limit their travel.
Some football matches have also been suspended.
