The Covid infections recorded in the United Kingdom in the last 24 hours have broken through 50,000 (52,009 to be exact), a record since July when they had touched 60,000.

This is certified by today's official data, which instead confirm that overall hospital admissions remain below the alert level, slightly increasing from approximately 7,900 to 8,100, but far from the peaks of 39,000 in recent months.

The daily number of deaths decreased, to 115 against 179 yesterday and thanks to the barrier effect attributed to the double vaccine administered so far in the country to about 80% of the population.

THE PREMIER - "Let's go ahead with our plan", "the most important thing people can do is undergo the booster dose of the vaccine". Thus the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in response to several appeals by the national health authorities and the doctors' union asking to switch instead to the "plan B" against Covid, introducing restrictions in England after the surge in infections.

Johnson admitted that the numbers of infections are high but within the parameters indicated by the predictions made about possible scenarios when the restrictions were lifted by the government. The premier also assured that the data are constantly kept under control, recalling that the country is now in a much better situation than a year ago.

During a religious function in progress today in the cathedral of Armagh, the prime minister wore a mask to protect himself from the coronavirus, thus following the invitation made yesterday by the minister of health, Sajid Javid, who, while not introducing mandatory facial coverage in crowded and indoor places (as foreseen by plan B) "strongly recommended" it to citizens in certain risky situations and to political representatives in order to set a good example.
