A message in a bottle sent by a young girl in Scotland was found in Norway 25 years later. Joanna Buchan - says the BBC - was eight when she dropped the bottle from a fishing boat off Peterhead in 1996 for a school project.

In the letter she revealed a love of sweets and her dog and a dislike for the opposite sex. "By the way, I hate boys," was the conclusion.

The bottle was found in summer 2020 almost 1,300 kilometers away, in Gasvaer (Northern Norway), by Elena Andreassen Haga, who tracked Joanna on social media. And he said his father also found a message in a bottle when he was about five years old, in the same area.

"I vaguely remember writing a message to Peterhead Central School in 1996," the former Scottish student later explained, however acknowledging that that was her handwriting. When she reread it she "died laughing", because "there are really lovely jokes about what was important to me at the time. I wish I could tell my teachers at the time."
