In a press conference, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on the Pope's attempts at mediation regarding the Kiev-Moscow conflict. According to the man from the Kremlin, the pontiff would have made non-Christian declarations on the cruelties committed in particular by Chechens and Buryats.

"The Vatican has said that this will not happen again and that there was probably a misunderstanding, but this does not help to increase the authority of the papal state," added Lavrov. On the other hand, regarding Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani : "He is making declarations relating to ideas aimed at seeking a solution in Ukraine, but I have not heard any concrete proposals".

Meanwhile, in the Lugansk region, the country's most modern high-voltage power plant has been destroyed by the Russian military. The news was announced on Facebook by the chairman of the Ukrainian energy company Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytsky . The Kreminska plant was inaugurated in 2020 and completely covered the electricity needs of the region, also creating a reserve: «In 2020 - as reported by Kudrytsky - we built and put into operation a high voltage station, which has no similar plants in Europe. It was needed to provide reliable power supply to around 500,000 consumers in Lugansk."

In the southern region of Zaporizhzhia instead, where the largest nuclear power plant in Europe is located, a new emergency blackout was recorded. This was announced by the state energy supplier Ukrenergo, quoted by CNN. The power outage - as Ukrenergo explains - is due to the "significant exceeding of electricity consumption" in the region. "Energy will be restored when consumption stabilizes," he added.
