Iran's judiciary chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, has promised speedy trials for suspects arrested during the protests.
The announcement was made by Iranian state television and quoted by international media.
“If someone burned someone, beheaded someone and set them on fire, then we must act quickly,” Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei said during a visit to a prison where protesters are being held.
Iranian news agencies also stressed that the trials should be held "in public."
