A video, the location of which was verified by AFP today , shows dozens of bodies piled up outside a morgue south of Tehran, with human rights groups saying they are victims of the Iranian authorities' crackdown on protests.
The geotagged footage, taken from the Kahrizak morgue, just south of the Iranian capital, showed bodies wrapped in black bags on the ground outside, with what appeared to be grieving relatives searching for their loved ones.
The video first appeared online yesterday. The morgue is formally known as the Tehran Provincial Forensic Diagnostics Center and Laboratory.
Human rights groups have already drawn attention to the Kahrizak footage , with the Norwegian organization Iran Human Rights (IHR) saying it "shows a large number of people killed during the nationwide protests in Iran." The Hengaw group, also based in Norway, said it had personally verified the footage, which shows "dozens of bloodied bodies both inside and outside the Kahrizak morgue," demonstrating a "widespread and serious crime."
Activists have accused security forces of using live fire to quell two weeks of protests , exploiting the internet shutdown, and have expressed fears that hundreds of people may already have been killed.
