The first death sentence against a transgender person in the United States was carried out in Missouri.

This is 49-year-old Amber McLaughlin , who was found guilty in 2003 of the murder of an ex-girlfriend.

His lawyers had asked the governor for clemency, which however was not granted. The woman, her lawyers argued, had had many problems in childhood and suffered from depression and mental disorders. He would also have attempted suicide several times.

When the trial began, Amber was still Scott and the sex change took place while in custody . In 2003, he stabbed his ex, Beverly Guenther to death and abandoned her body near the Mississippi River.
