The UK recorded over 40,000 coronavirus cases yesterday, and for the fourth day in a row.
This is what emerges from the data of the National Statistics Office, the Independent says, according to which infections have been steadily increasing since the beginning of October.
In the last 24 hours, infections were 43,423, the previous day they were 45,066, the highest level since July.
According to estimates by the Bureau of Statistics, the country is approaching the peak marked during the second wave of the pandemic last winter. In fact, the data indicate the growing trend: in the week from four to 10 October, about one in 60 people in England had Covid compared to one in 70 in the previous week. At the beginning of October, the positive cases were about 30,000 per day.
In Great Britain, 70% of the population is vaccinated. After a full speed start, the campaign ran aground. It should also be considered that the AstraZeneca vaccine, less effective than the mRna vaccine, was used and that most of the vaccinations were carried out earlier than in the rest of Europe. So coverage may have decreased over time.
Most of the infections are recorded among young people and in schools.
