The Israeli military today announced a further expansion of its ground operations in the Jabaliya area, in the northern Gaza Strip. IDF (Israel Defense Forces) troops are reportedly engaged in targeted combat against what they call "terrorist targets and infrastructure," aiming to strike armed organizations active in the area, particularly Hamas.

According to a statement released through official channels, Israeli forces have so far "dismantled hundreds of sites linked to the military apparatus of Palestinian militias," also recovering "numerous weapons" and "eliminating dozens of fighters."

One of the most significant interventions involved the discovery of a system of underground tunnels beneath the urban area of Jabaliya: according to the IDF, the tunnels were approximately 2.7 kilometers long and 20 meters deep. The tunnels were reportedly used by militants to move and hide beneath the city, in what the army calls an "underground terrorist network."

The operation involves the Engineers of the 401st Armored Brigade and is part of the activities of the Southern Command, which has been engaged in the conflict for months.

"Our troops will continue to act to neutralize terrorist threats, with the aim of ensuring the safety of Israeli civilians and communities living near the Gaza Strip," the statement concludes.

At least six Palestinians have been killed in Gaza City and the northern Strip since the early hours of this morning following Israeli attacks , Al Jazeera reports, citing correspondents on the ground.
