A fugitive for 17 years , he had been wanted since 2006 .

The carabinieri arrested in Sant'Etienne , France, Edgardo Greco , who was sentenced to life imprisonment for a double 'Ndrangheta murder that took place in Cosenza in 1991.

A European arrest warrant issued by the Attorney General of Catanzaro was pending against Greco. The man was identified and arrested by the soldiers of the Cosenza Operations Department as part of an investigative activity coordinated by the Catanzaro District Anti-Mafia Directorate. The 63-year-old had been a pizza chef for at least three years in a restaurant in the French town , where he had settled since 2014 .

He was wanted for the murder of the brothers Stefano and Giuseppe Bartolomeo , killed in Cosenza on 5 January 1991, massacred with blows of a bar inside a fish market. Investigations revealed that the bodies of the two - disappeared and never found - were unearthed two years after the murder and then dissolved in acid. The man is also accused of the attempted murder of Emiliano Mosciaro , which also took place in Cosenza on 21 July 1991.

The crimes charged against Greco are part of the "mafia war " that broke out in the early 1990s in Cosenza between the " Pino-Sena " and " Perna-Pranno " gangs . The soldiers who made the arrest worked, in the final phase of the operation, together with the personnel of the Italian and French units to be captured and the I-Can Unit of the International Police Cooperation Service of the Ministry of the Interior .
