Red alert in eastern Libya after the passage of Hurricane Daniel which caused an unprecedented massacre including floods , damage to population centers and properties. The most affected city is Derna, devastated by torrential rains. In the capital of the district of the same name there are at least 2 thousand dead and thousands missing . After the earthquake in Morocco , a new emergency front is therefore opening up, with the international community on alert. Complicating the situation in Derna was the simultaneous collapse of two dams which released over 33 million cubic meters of water which generated devastating floods.

In Tripoli, the prime minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, decreed three days of mourning, while for his part Prime Minister Hammad announced two public holidays for all sectors of the east of the country, with the exception of the security services , health and emergency. The areas hit by the hurricane are home to the country's main oil fields: the National Petroleum Company (Noc) has announced a state of maximum alert and the suspension of flights between production sites where activity has been drastically reduced.

For experts, this is an " extreme " phenomenon , given the quantity of water that fell. The same storm also affected Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria in recent days, causing at least 27 victims. But the sad balance sheet is still being updated. Precipitation was estimated between 50 and 250 mm, with lightning and thunder. According to the Libyan National Meteorological Center, the storm is expected to move further east and reach the regions bordering Egypt.
