Figliuolo in Lebanon: «Unifil mission important to avoid escalation»

Last Wednesday, the Covi delegation accompanied by the commander of the Western sector of Unifil, Stefano Messina, first met in Beirut the Italian ambassador to Lebanon Fabrizio Marcelli, and then stopped at the UN base in Shama, home to the Joint Task Force Lebanon Command, currently under the leadership of the Sassari Brigade, where Figliuolo greeted the Italian soldiers of the Western sector.
After meeting with the personnel of the newly formed Military Technical Committee for Lebanon, the transfer to the forward bases to inspect the security procedures and the provisions relating to force protection. "The presence of Unifil is currently one of the factors that can bring stability and avoid further escalations," Figliuolo said, addressing the Italian contingent. In Naqoura, the commander of Covi was welcomed by the head of mission and force commander of Unifil, the Spaniard Aroldo Aroldo Lázaro Sáenz.
