Protests by Catalan farmers resumed in the early hours of the morning , with tractors continuing the road blocks that began yesterday morning on the AP 7 motorway, the main artery connecting the border between Spain and France , near the towns of Borrassà and Vilademuls, reports the Catalan Traffic Service.

Columns of tractors also interrupted traffic on the N-II and N-152 national roads, to block border crossings in the province of Gerona towards France . Also in Lleida, still in Catalonia, traffic continues to be blocked on the AP-2 from Aitona to Albatarrecm and in some sections the A-2, the A-22 and the N-240 and N-230, the N-260 and N-230.

The protests were called by the Uniò de Pagesos union and the Revolta Pagesa movement. The organizations announced yesterday that the three days of mobilization initially planned until today would be extended until tomorrow , after a meeting with representatives of the Catalan government which was not considered satisfactory.

Farmers are waiting for answers on greater controls on imports of agricultural products from countries outside the EU, to avoid "unfair competition", bureaucratic simplification and water management, the Uniò de Pagesos reports in a note.

For the roadblocks on the roads of the region, the Government of Catalonia has activated the Procicat emergency plan and the Catalan police recommends minimizing travel on the sections of motorways and national roads affected by the protests.
