Twenty-one Italian neo-Nazis were arrested last night at Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport.

This was reported by the Kathimerini website, according to which those arrested had reached the capital to participate in a far-right rally in Neo Iraklio, north of Athens.

This rally was organized by local far-right networks, such as the Hellenic Front and Athens Autonomous, to commemorate the death of two militants of the now dissolved neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party , which occurred on November 1, 2013.

At the time, two militants had been shot dead outside a party headquarters: those responsible for the killing were never identified.

From what we understand, the twenty-one Italian citizens were detained in order to initiate the administrative expulsion procedure against them for reasons of national security.

Faced with the risk of possible clashes, the Attica General Police Directorate nevertheless banned both the commemoration rally and other demonstrations announced by members of Greek anti-fascist organizations.
