The meeting between Ursula von der Leyen and the leaders of the EPP, Socialists and Renew groups on EU nominations ended in nothing. "There was no agreement", explained parliamentary sources. "All channels of communication remain open", added Socialist sources. Therefore, the stalemate continues on the evaluations of the executive vice-presidents of the new European Commission, including the Italian Raffaele Fitto (Ecr).

With him the Estonian Kaja Kallas (Renew), the Romanian Roxana Mînzatu (S&D), the French Stéphane Séjourné (Renew), the Spanish Teresa Ribera (S&D) and the Finnish Henna Virkkunen (EPP).

Giorgia Meloni also spoke out about the uncertainties, declaring: "Ladies and gentlemen, here is the position of the European Socialists Group, in which the largest delegation is that of Elly Schlein's Democratic Party: Raffaele Fitto, the Italian commissioner, should be stripped of the vice-presidency of the commission that President von der Leyen has decided to entrust. Italy, according to them, does not deserve to have a vice-presidency of the Commission. These are your left-wing representatives."
