Ballots closed in Portugal, where citizens have returned to vote to elect the new parliament.

According to the first numbers coming from the polling stations, the Socialist Party of the outgoing Prime Minister Antonio Costa has the advantage over the Social Democratic Party (center-right) with 37-42% of the votes against 30-35%.

Costa's Socialist Party could thus improve the result of the 2019 legislative precedents and could achieve an absolute majority in Parliament.

Also on the basis of the first data provided by the Lusitanian TVs, the polls would also have sanctioned a clear growth of the far-right Chega party, which could rise from 1.29% of the legislative elections three years ago to 5-8%.
