At least six people have died and nine were injured after a tourist submarine sank off the coast of the Egyptian city of Hurghada in the Red Sea .
Twenty-two people were rescued, while the injured, including "four in critical condition," were transported to nearby hospitals.
The submarine Sindbad, which had been in operation for several years, offering tourist excursions in the area, is understood to have been the victim of the accident.
According to the company that owns the vessel, it is one of only 14 true recreational submarines in the world. The company, Sindbad Submarines, which also owns another, allowed tourists to dive to depths of up to 25 meters to explore 500 meters of coral reef and its marine life.
