The victims of the earthquake that devastated Turkey and Syria are almost 40 thousand, with the death toll which, unfortunately, is increasing by the hour.

"These catastrophes have always happened and are part of the plan of destiny," Turkish President Erdogan said. But, at the same time, the Ankara authorities have decided to take a hard line against the builders who, after the 1999 earthquake, would not have implemented the anti-seismic standards in the construction of many of the buildings that crumbled during the tremendous tremors of recent days.

In fact, more than one hundred entrepreneurs and technicians in the building sector have been arrested in the 10 provinces hit by the earthquake on charges of violating the country's regulations.

Furthermore, Ankara's Ministry of Justice has authorized the prosecutors to initiate lawsuits against all the builders and those responsible for the collapses who have shown themselves to be negligent in these cases.
