"I wasn't aware of, and I can't explain, the shortcomings that emerged from our analyses. I refuse to believe this is a systematic situation in Crans-Montana."

In an interview with the Keystone-ATS agency, the mayor of Crans-Montana, Nicolas Feraud, spoke about the lack of security checks at the Constellation, which caught fire on New Year's Eve, killing 40 people and injuring 116 young people.

The last inspections of the facility date back to 2019, during which some recommendations were given for making some improvements to the premises.

"The investigations will reveal whether the requests for compliance led to actual action," Feraud continues, "and whether anything had to do with the tragedy that unfolded. Our managers are known for being meticulous. However, I cannot judge the specific functioning of each service or the way they work in coordination with the ministry."
