Joint naval maneuvers between China, Russia and Iran.

The three-way exercise, dubbed “Security Belt 2025,” began on Sunday after Beijing’s flotilla arrived in waters near the Iranian port of Chabahar, joining units deployed by the other two countries.

The announcement was made by the People's Liberation Army Navy, specifying that the operations will continue until Thursday. The Chinese Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that the Dragon would soon hold maneuvers with Russia and Iran, while the Chinese Navy would send a destroyer and a supply ship.

Meanwhile, Beijing is back to talking about Taiwan. China will make “maximum efforts” to achieve a “peaceful reunification” with Taiwan, but will take “all necessary measures” to protect its territorial integrity , Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at the daily briefing. Ning confirmed that the Chinese government “is willing to do its utmost to commit to the prospect of peaceful reunification with utmost sincerity,” referring to what Foreign Minister Wang Yi said last week, according to which Taiwan will never be a “country” and that advocating its “independence” means interfering in China’s internal affairs.
