It probably owes its life to a group of cats that attracted the attention of some citizens by allowing it to be found before dying.

A baby girl was rescued in Mumbai from a drain in a sewer where she was about to drown.

The inhabitants of the area noticed the felines that had gathered on the side of a road and began to meow insistently. They went to see what was happening and found the little girl who is only a few days old. Entrusted to doctors, she was declared to be in good health.

The policemen have launched an investigation into the incident but have told the press that they have no clue: the newborn, who will be given up for adoption as soon as she is out of danger, was wrapped in an anonymous white cotton sheet.

The killing of newborn girls is an atrocious practice not entirely eradicated in India, especially in the poorest areas, in fact in many areas a female daughter is considered a useless and heavy burden.
