In a decision contained in just one line, a Kerala state court issued its verdict against a Catholic bishop, acquitting him of the charge of raping a nun for two years.

Franco Mulakkal is the first priest to be tried in India.

The nun, who had denounced him in 2018, claimed to have been repeatedly raped between 2014 and 2016 in Kerala, when the prelate, who has always denied any accusation, was the head of the order of the Missionaries of Jesus. it was aimed at the police because in the world of the Church, he explained, it had been ignored.

"I thank God", was the comment of the bishop, who burst into tears after the announcement of the verdict. During the investigation he had suspended himself from office in the diocese of Jalandhar, the location where the violence allegedly took place.
