The Italian investigation into the affair of the marines Salvatore Girone and Massimiliano Latorre is also nearing its conclusion.

The Rome Prosecutor's Office has in fact requested the dismissal of the two Navy riflemen, accused of the murder of two Indian fishermen in February 2012 off the coast of Kerala, in south-western India.

Prosecutor Michele Prestipino and deputy Erminio Amelio asked the investigating judge to drop the charges against the military, as the framework of the evidence collected in recent years is not sufficient to guarantee the establishment of a trial.

Last June the long-standing battle with India also ended , when the Supreme Court of New Delhi ordered the closure of all the judicial proceedings against Girone and Latorre, after the Italian State agreed to pay the ministry Indian Foreign Exchange 100 million rupees (about 1.1 million euros) as compensation.
