A car swooped into the crowd in Berlin's Charlottenburg district, at least one person died and eight were injured .

Initially there was talk of 30 injured, but it was "the report received by the firefighters immediately after the fact", explained a spokesman. The victim is a 51-year-old teacher who was walking with a group of students, some of whom were also run over. The eight injured are all serious, five of them are in serious danger of life .

On the spot the Police and the firefighters, intervened with over 60 units. The driver of the car - a Renault Clio - was arrested and is being questioned to clarify the nature of the facts. He is a 29-year-old Armenian German .

"We want to clarify whether it was an intentional act or an accident that could also have occurred under the influence of drugs," explained the police. According to Bild, however , a letter of claim was found in the machine.

Several ambulances intervened, who also set up a first aid point directly on the spot. There is great shock and some of the injured are in serious condition .

The episode took place in the heart of the German capital, on Breidescheidplatz, the same place where the dramatic attack on the Christmas markets by Anis Amri took place on 19 December 2016 , which cost the lives of 12 people.

After running over a group of people, the man returned to the aisle and crashed into a shop window 200 meters later. Then he got out of the car and tried to escape on foot , but was blocked by passers-by who handed him over to the police.
