A serious traffic accident has occurred in Melbourne, Australia. A bus carrying 45 students and no teachers overturned after being rear-ended by a lorry.

18 children - aged between 5 and 11 - were injured, many of them underwent surgery and one is in intensive care.

The truck driver has been charged.

The bus had left from Exford Primary School, the collision occurred shortly after.

The pupils were trapped between the plates and were then rescued. The main injuries are amputations and severe cuts.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese thanked the rescuers and sent best wishes to the families involved.
