After the magnitude 4.4 earthquake recorded yesterday in Campi Flegrei , in the early hours of today a violent earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck Greece, off the coast of the southern Aegean Sea. This was reported by the US Geological Survey (USGS). The tremor was felt as far away as Cairo. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the sea, 15 kilometers from the Greek island of Kasos , and it was also strongly felt on the islands of Kos and Rhodes, in the Dodecanese archipelago, as well as in Crete, according to the Greek news agency ANA and the public broadcaster ERT.
However, according to the same source, it did not cause any casualties or damage , but a tsunami warning was sent to the cell phones of residents of Rhodes, the islands of Karpathos and Kasos. For its part, the Institute of Geodynamics of the Athens Observatory, which is the reference point in Greece for measuring earthquakes, announced a 5.9 magnitude earthquake over 420 km southeast of Athens.
According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 78 kilometers around 1:51 a.m. local time (00:5 on Tuesday).
