The fugitive of Marco Raduano, the boss of the "Gargano mafia" who escaped from Nuoro prison on 24 February 2023, is over.

Raduano, 40 years old, from Vieste, was arrested in France , in Corsica , where he was apparently hiding after the sensational escape from the Badu e' Carros penitentiary, from which he had managed to escape by lowering himself down from a fence wall using a rope knotted sheets.

The arrest took place in Bastia, while he was in a luxury restaurant in the company of a woman. The ROS carabinieri group is in action, the same one that captured the boss Matteo Messina Denaro.

Gianluigi Troiano, believed by investigators to be Marco Raduano's right-hand man, was also captured after more than two years on the run . Troiano had been on the run since the end of 2021 when he escaped from the house arrest he was serving with the application of the electronic bracelet in Campomarino, in the province of Campobasso. The 30-year-old was captured last Tuesday in Granada, a city in Andalusia, a region in southern Spain.

THE OPERATION - «A great success for the State team» , the words of the Bari prosecutor, Roberto Rossi , during the press conference called at the Bari prosecutor's office to illustrate the operation which was conducted by the ROS carabinieri with the coordination of the prosecutor's offices of Bari, Cagliari and the National Anti-Mafia Directorate .

The Sco and Sisco departments of the State Police also collaborated in the investigation.

The State, added Rossi, managed to identify Troiano and Raduano «thanks to sophisticated investigative activity, carried out with important technological and traditional means. They were captured with patience, breaking that idea of the invincibility of fugitives that often circulates on social media. Instead we always catch fugitives."

The Prosecutor of Cagliari, Rodolfo Sabelli , connected via video conference, also underlined the importance of "coordination of the police forces, of the Prosecutor's Offices of Cagliari and Bari and of the National Anti-Mafia Directorate" .

Raduano was on the list of the most dangerous wanted criminals in Europe.

Troiano must serve a final sentence of 6 years and 7 months for drug trafficking with the mafia as an aggravating factor.

Raduano, definitively sentenced to 24 years as part of the "Snow of March" operation, was sentenced in first instance to life imprisonment in the "Omnia nostra" investigation.
