The man who attempted to commit a sacrilegious act inside the holiest shrine of Sikhism was beaten to death by the faithful in the Indian city of Amritsar, in the state of Punjab.
While a prayer was in progress, he broke into the temple where the sacred book of Sikhism, the Guru Granth Sahib, is kept. He tried to touch a ceremonial sword placed next to the book but the guards and the faithful blocked him. Then the fatal beating ensued.
The police investigate to clarify the circumstances of the murder and identify those responsible.
