Tomorrow, February 24, a year will have passed since Russia's invasion of Ukraine and today a new resolution is being voted at the UN to promote peace: strong support is expected from Kiev.

The document calls for a "global, just and lasting peace in Ukraine in line with the principles of the UN Charter", recalled Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, speaking among the first in the assembly and embracing his Ukrainian counterpart Kuleba at the end of his speech.

The minister reaffirmed the government's unity on this issue, urging diplomatic efforts to be redoubled for a solution to the conflict: «Peace is the final strategic goal we are all aiming for. Italy believes there can be no peace without justice, and justice also means full respect for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territory, integrity within its internationally recognized borders and territorial waters.

«We are here to discuss a resolution promoting dialogue and lasting peace in Ukraine, in line with the UN Charter. The Russian invasion is an attack on the heart of the UN Charter» were the words of the US ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, in the General Assembly, underlining that «this vote is an opportunity to vote for this peace».

He also recalled that in recent days last year "all Russia was doing was denying, denying and denying, as the delegate from Moscow is doing today", and reiterated the accusation of "crimes against humanity".
