A Kentucky man, Peter Schwartz, with a long string of felonies, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for pepper spraying police officers during the January 6, 2021 storming of Capitol Hill.

This is the heaviest penalty imposed so far for the attack on the US Congress carried out by Donald Trump's supporters on the eve of the inauguration of current President Joe Biden.

Schwartz, a welder by trade, took part in the revolt with his wife. The

prosecutors had asked for 24 years and six months in prison.

The judge who sentenced him, Amit Mehta, is the same one who in recent months sentenced a retired New York policeman to 10 years in prison for assaulting an agent during the assault on Congress.
