Doubts and controversy following the release by the British Royal House of the first official photo of Princess Kate , recovering following abdominal surgery last January.

The image was withdrawn by several agencies such as Reuters and Associated Press due to suspicions that it had been "manipulated".

«Upon closer inspection – reads a note from AP – it appears that the source manipulated the image in a way that does not meet AP's photographic standards. The photo shows an inconsistency in the alignment of Princess Charlotte's left hand."

There are other critical points on social media, for example the fact that the princess is not wearing the engagement ring, the one that belonged to Lady Diana from which she separated on very rare occasions.

Kensington Palace declined to comment.

The portrait, taken by Prince William, shows his wife and three children and in the message Kate thanks "for the good wishes and continued support over the last two months".
