The huge Sea Life aquarium – a hotel attraction not far from Alexanderplatz in Berlinexploded this morning causing two injuries .

«Water flows down the street», reads the police tweet and Karl Liebknecht Strasse, the street overlooked by the "DomAquaree" hotel, has been closed to traffic.

The large tank16 meters high , which contained 1,500 tropical fish and one million liters of water – is (indeed was) believed to be the largest cylindrical aquarium in the world .

The reasons for the explosion are not yet clear - even if the newspaper Bild already speaks of "material fatigue" - and there are 100 firefighters at work on site.
