London's Luton airport has suspended all flights until 12pm due to a serious fire which caused the partial collapse of one of its car parks.

"The safety of our passengers and our staff remains our main priority: we have therefore taken the decision to suspend all flights until 12" (1pm in Italy), indicated the airport located about 40 kilometers north of central London and served by several low-cost airlines.

Luton has advised passengers not to travel to the airport, "as access remains very limited". The fire broke out around 9pm local time in a recently built car park: videos of a multi-storey building, near a terminal, on fire on social media.

Five people - four firefighters and an airport employee - were hospitalized. Another injured person was treated at the scene. Firefighters are working to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to other buildings.

“The structure of the building has suffered significant collapse,” Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said on X.

Luton Airport saw 13 million people pass through in 2022. It is served in particular by the airlines easyJet, Ryanair and Wizz Air.
