5-year-old boy gets lost during a kindergarten field trip, body found in a pond

Tragedy in Austria.

During a kindergarten field trip to Mattersburg, Burgenland, a 5-year-old boy strayed from the group and got lost. After some searches, the boy's body was found in the pond of a private house . The health workers who intervened on the spot revived the child, who died shortly after being admitted to hospital.

Seven police patrols, a dog unit and two drones took part in the searches. The Eisenstadt prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to reconstruct precisely what happened. According to the mayor of Mattersburg, Claudia Schlager, it was "a tragic accident". The first citizen expressed the proximity of the Municipality to the child's family. Asylum - in his opinion - "didn't do anything wrong".
