Zedda: «Streets of Cagliari not cleaned by the lockdown: we start again, without removing the cars»
Mayor and councilor Giua Marassi present the intervention plan for the decoration of the city's streets, with the use of experimental means«The streets have not been touched since the lockdown»: this is how Mayor Massimo Zedda began during today's press conference, in which "Cagliari, clean city", the new project on urban hygiene, was presented. "Four years of dust have accumulated and we breathe what remains."
The new extraordinary cleaning plan began last night in the Marina area and in part of the historic centre, which involves the use of experimental vehicles with tankers and high-pressure lances which will allow a deep cleaning of the city streets.
The news is that it will no longer be necessary to move the car during operations: the interventions will be carried out under parked vehicles.
«We ask for the collaboration of citizens», the appeal of Luisa Giua Marassi, councilor for urban ecology, environment and public greenery. «We have a toll-free number and receive reports on all channels. We are also working to reduce the timeframe for emergency cleaning services from 24 to 6 hours."
"There is a lack of incentives for the population and commercial activities", adds the mayor, who is thinking of rewards for the most committed citizens: " An example would be the demolition of the Tari".
Some difficulties in maintaining the cleanliness of certain areas, such as the new sidewalks in Viale Trieste. «To clean cigarette butts from gravel, meticulous manual work or the use of particular resins would be required, which however can be toxic to the trees that have been planted», says Zedda.
