Olbia, Saline beach, the day after the fire. In the sea, about 500 meters from the shore, lies the remains of the 47-meter superyacht “Alina”, flying the Cook Islands flag, destroyed late yesterday evening by a large fire.
The Fire Department intervened immediately, reaching the boat and putting out the flames. But, once the operations were completed, we now have to deal with "a real environmental emergency". As explained this morning by Captain Gianluca D'Agostino, during an inspection near the now submerged vessel, "The fire broke out from the garage deck but the Coast Guard intervened immediately. The people were rescued immediately by our means and the coordination for the extinguishing activities was carried out by the port tug Mascalzone Scatanato, which did an excellent job".
The boat is now resting on a seabed between 6 and 8 meters deep. At this time, environmental monitoring operations are ongoing, avoiding the possible spillage of fuel which "is not there at the moment". Investigations are underway to verify the causes of the fire.
