Second definitive life sentence for Niveo Batzella, accused of the murder of Sergio Tronci, the worker from Assemini who worked at Vesuvius, burned alive in February 2004 in Ortacesus after being severely beaten for a clandestine relationship with the accused's partner.

Yesterday morning the Court of Cassation declared inadmissible the appeal presented by the life prisoner, already convicted for the murder of Gianluca Carta, killed in 2011 with a shot to the back of the head and found in the countryside of Sestu. That crime arose from conflicts that broke out in the nightclub sector.

According to the reconstruction of the trial, on the night between 28 and 29 February 2004, Sergio Tronci, 52 years old, was beaten, hogtied and burned alive in the trunk of his car, which was later found by a group of foresters. The worker kept Batzella's horses, but would also have had a relationship with the boss's partner, head of a gang that would later commit other crimes over the years.

Tronci would have been lured into a trap and then beaten bloody and killed with fire. The crime was then solved by prosecutor Rossana Allieri with the carabinieri who reopened the investigation eight years after the murder. Now the second life sentence has become definitive.
