The person arrested by the Forestry Corps on June 28 last year would be responsible for at least two forest fires in Assemini and Decimomannu . The precautionary measure at home arrest was requested and obtained today by the prosecutor due to the concrete danger of repeating the crime.

It is a 41-year-old from Assemini , with a clean record and employed in ambulance service, accused of the crime of malicious forest fire punished with up to 15 years of imprisonment.

It all happened on June 28, in a complicated day on the fire emergency front. Between 2 pm and 4 pm, a sequence of 6 fires affected the municipalities of Assemini, Uta and Decimomannu . The teams of the Forestry Corps - Uta and GAUF Station, as well as the Forestas Agency as well as the Fire Brigade and Volunteers, were engaged in extinguishing interventions also with the help of a Forestry Corps helicopter that took off from the Marganai base.

A couple of citizens had seen in Terramaini - countryside of Decimomannu, near the State Road 130, a person bent over the countryside, intent on setting flames and then driving off with an off-road vehicle. Shortly after, in the locality of Grogastu, several fires involved the countryside of Uta and Assemini. A team of volunteers from Capoterra saw the same off-road vehicle travel at high speed along a rural penetration road, the same from which the fire of vast proportions then developed.

With the fires still in progress, the investigative specialist unit of the Forestry Corps of the Inspectorate of Cagliari intervened, which collected the information and identified the car and the driver. In the machine, in addition to several lighters, an open sachet containing three fragments of devil was found. Camera images confirmed the suspicions.
