Wind, ecologists against new offshore projects in Sardinia
There are six requests for concessions, the environmentalists: "This is the far west"
The ecological association Gruppo d'intervento Giuridico (GrIG) has presented to the Cagliari maritime departmental deeds of opposition to the release of two state-owned maritime concessions for the construction of as many floating offshore wind farms in the Sulcis sea by Sea Wind Italia srl (registered office in the industrial area of Portoscuso).
These are oppositions that are added to others already filed by the association.
There are six offshore wind farm projects in the seas of southern Sardinia, with 174 wind turbines planned: in detail by Repower Renewables.pa off the coast of Capo Teulada, with 33 wind turbines; by Nora Ventu srl with two offshore floating wind farm projects with 93 wind turbines for a total capacity of 1.4 GW at 18 nautical miles southeast of Cagliari and 6 nautical miles south of Capo Teulada; from Ichnusa Wind Power srl, with 42 floating wind turbines 265 meters high about 35 kilometers from the coast of Sulcis, for a total power of 504 MW; by Seawind Italia srl, with 48 wind turbines 21 nautical miles southwest of the island of S. Pietro and 6 nautical miles off the island of S. Antioco.
At the moment, no Via proceedings have yet been initiated.
"This is one of the most significant consequences of the now in fact full-blown desire to assign Sardinia and the Sardinian seas to the role of an energy production platform - denounces the association - This assault on the sea in terms of energy is, unfortunately, a consequence of poor and very inadequate planning of real energy needs, of the inadequate promotion of energy saving, of inadequate diversification of production sources, of the lack of energy storage systems and, above all, of an effective identification of areas of naturalistic and environmental importance, landscape subtracted from any type of energy production ".
"It is a real Far West in the Mediterranean - concludes the Grig - where every energy company seems to be able to do what it wants. With a lot of public money, for a change".
