Two new cases of West Nile fever were recorded today by the Department of Hygiene and Health Prevention of the Local Health Authority (ASL) 5 of Oristano.
These are two patients over eighty, a man from Oristano admitted to the San Martino hospital in Oristano and a woman from Baratili San Pietro , seen in the Emergency Room of the same hospital and already discharged with home treatment.
This brings the number of symptomatic cases of West Nile virus confirmed in Sardinia in 2025 to 37 , all in the province of Oristano, where two deaths have occurred. An epidemiological investigation has already begun, and the residential area of the two infected individuals has been cordoned off to allow for disinfection within 200 meters of their homes.
"Once again, we recommend, especially for the frail and elderly, that they take all necessary preventive and protective measures against mosquitoes, the insects that transmit the West Nile virus," reiterated Maria Valentina Marras, director of the Department of Hygiene and Health Prevention at Oristano's Local Health Authority (ASL 5).
