The number of confirmed cases of West Nile virus in the country in 2025 has risen to 30 .
The epidemiological investigation has already begun, and the area where the infected individual lives has been cordoned off to allow for disinfection within 200 meters of the home.
"As usual, we remind everyone, especially the frail and elderly, that it's important to protect themselves from mosquito bites, which carry the virus," reiterates Maria Valentina Marras, director of the Health and Prevention Department of Oristano's Local Health Authority (ASL 5). "Avoiding standing water, where larvae breed, is crucial: frequently empty pet bowls, plant pots, containers, and paddling pools. It's also important when outdoors, especially at dusk, to cover your body, legs, and arms with light-colored clothing, use repellent spray, and put mosquito screens on doors and windows to keep your home safe."
