A man in his seventies from Santa Giusta died yesterday at the San Martino Hospital in Oristano from West Nile fever, according to health authorities.
The Health and Prevention Department of the Oristano Local Health Authority has also recorded a new case of positivity to the virus in a patient
A man in his nineties from Masullas, currently hospitalized at San Gavino Hospital . Regarding this latest case, an epidemiological investigation has already been initiated and the elderly man's residential area has been cordoned off to allow for disinfection within 200 meters of his home.
To date, 38 symptomatic cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed in the province of Oristano since 2025.
The health authorities themselves remind us of the prevention measures : «Once again we invite the population not to underestimate the risks associated with mosquito bites and to continue to protect themselves from this insect which transmits the West Nile virus, which is especially dangerous for the frail and elderly – reiterates the director of the Health and Prevention department of the ASL 5 of Oristano Maria Valentina Marras.
