The Maccheronis dam will only be able to supply water until August 10th . This is the tragic outcome of what emerged this morning during the meeting called in Nuoro by the prefect Giancarlo Dionisi with 43 mayors of the area . With them, in the premises of the Police Headquarters, also the president of the Central Sardinia Reclamation Consortium Ambrogio Guiso and the representatives of Coldiretti .

The situation is dramatic : the artificial dam on the Rio Posada, with just over 8 million cubic meters stored , will only be able to supply water until early August. A situation that will bring the central-eastern area of the island to its knees, from Barony to lower Gallura. The first citizens therefore ask for immediate interventions , but above all infrastructures for the definitive solution to the problem. «The situation is also serious for the Ogliastra, Nurra and Sulcis reservoirs but for Maccheronis the emergency is total - the number one of the Consortium clarified - From 24 million cubic meters of water in 2023 we have dropped to 8 million in 2024, but only 5 million can be used: we'll arrive at the latest on August 10th."

In the municipalities of Baronia and lower Gallura, ban ordinances have already been adopted for watering lawns and filling swimming pools, while in the agricultural sector water can only be used for watering animals. A solution that will not be enough to guarantee the relief of the countryside and the serenity of the workers who - indeed - are increasingly worried. And we are already thinking about the possibilities to be evaluated to tackle the problem, even if they are all "extreme and expensive", as explained by the Reclamation Consortium. Among the options is also that of starting the watermakers and bringing water from the mountain reservoirs. «In the long term – explains Guiso – we need to give legs to the already completed project for the construction of the dam above Maccheronis, which will contain 100 million cubic metres».

In the meantime, the mayors are taking action. "In a few weeks, if it doesn't rain, there will be such an emergency that it will force us to close second homes along the coast ," declared the mayor of Siniscola Gianluigi Farris . In San Teodoro, however, the mayor Rita Deretta met the Coc this morning to manage the critical issues. «We have a waste water management system, but it cannot be used - the first citizen recalled - neither for agricultural nor for civil uses, but which allows us to reduce the consumption of water by Abbanoa and the Consortia. We hope that the emergency will serve to put the infrastructure in place for definitive solutions."

Coldiretti's pressure on the regional councilor for Agriculture Gianfranco Satta does not stop. «We need - reiterated the territorial director Alessandro Serra connected via videoconference - immediate palliatives for the watering of the animals, the reports we receive are dramatic. Give us answers immediately and then intervene in a structural way."
