They have lived there for 40 years, they have integrated perfectly. On Saturday in Villasimius the Tunisians of Sarrabus will offer a convivial evening also proposing couscous, almost as if to celebrate the beauty of integration and the exchange of cultures. The appointment is in Piazza Gramsci where the cultural association la Tartaruga, with the patronage of the Municipality, will propose "The celebration of the Tunisian community". An evening that must be "in the spirit of joy. A beautiful convivial moment and show".
The women of the historic Tunisian community present in Villasimius for decades will prepare and serve an excellent couscous with vegetables and meat with typical Tunisian flavors. To follow, a taste of their fabulous desserts. All this will be offered to those present, accompanied by mint tea and traditional music played live by the Marzouk Mejri musical group. The evening will be animated by Katia Malika, a traditional dance teacher.
In Villasimius, fellow citizens of Tunisian origin have lived, worked and studied for over 40 years. This community, the largest among the many coming from abroad, numbers over a hundred women, men, boys and children.
It is a young community, with an average age of around 35 and four members per family unit.
Many young couples have put down roots in Villasimius and even more families have chosen this place as a family home over 40 years ago.
"Personal biographies reveal stories of family reunions, as well as mixed marriages with citizens originally from Villasimius. A quarter of the Tunisians, now resident in the town - says Simona Vargiolu, president of the association La Tartaruga that organizes Saturday's event - were born after the arrival or reunion of their parents. Their existence as adolescents or young adults is completely shared with that of their Italian peers and of the many other nationalities present in Villasimius: integration occurred naturally and I would even say spontaneously. The Tunisian community represents a beautiful reality for our country especially because many of their traditions marry perfectly with ours. We are happy - Simona Vargiolu concludes - to be able to share with these friends the beauty of living together, in mutual respect and in the sharing of traditions and culture".
