The first edition of MitCup was a success, the sports tournament organized by MIT - the Consulta Giovani of Villaputzu under the patronage of the Municipality.

The tournament saw the participation of numerous athletes and a large audience from all over the Sarrabus who in the splendid frames of the Galileo Galilei and Is Tallaias squares were able to attend basketball, volleyball and padel games, with the latter field being inaugurated right in occasion of this tournament.
A huge audience for the finals that took place yesterday 10 September.

For the occasion, the matches were preceded by a beautiful dance show by Asd Sugarfoot and by a ride organized by the sports club Asd Villaputzu MTB which did not want to miss these days of sport and fun.

Serena Guidoni president of the Youth Council : “The balance is absolutely positive. A tournament organized in just over a month thanks to the collaboration of many "friends" of the Consulta. Aware of the fact that it was not perfect, we are happy to have contributed to "stop time" for a week, under the banner of sport. We don't stop there. We are already working with other projects and initiatives for young people and for the country and we aim to grow this sporting event that has just ended as early as next year ".
The numbers of the event : 3 sports, 19 teams, more than 100 athletes. The youngest athlete was a 14-year-old boy while the oldest was just over 60 years old. Hundreds of people attended and watched the games every evening.

Mayor Sandro Porcu : "We are very satisfied with the result obtained with this sporting event and for this I sincerely thank our Youth Consultation who is doing a great job within our community, thanks to events like this but also to other projects and initiatives that they are carrying out successfully and that the municipal administration is supporting. Next year there will certainly be the second edition of MitCup and we will strive to grow and improve this event which is not just a sport event but represents a moment of aggregation, fun and carefree that was missing in our country. Personally as mayor I am doubly satisfied, not only for the event itself which was a success but because we have managed in recent years as an administration to redevelop a square and public spaces that were previously abandoned and degraded. We all remember in what condition Piazza Galileo Galilei was until a few years ago, for many Red Square. Now thanks to the sports facilities built, including the Padel in the square in front, the new public lighting system and the further interventions already planned and financed such as the open-air gym and the area equipped for 4-legged friends, we will return to our fellow citizens but also to tourists and visitors of the new public meeting spaces, for young people, families and the elderly, beautiful and comfortable places. Seeing these squares alive again and full of people is a great satisfaction for us ”.
