First insults and threats from gangs of boys who arrogantly keep Balai beach under attack, then acts of vandalism against the lifeguard station. They acted at night, on the always crowded beach of Porto Torres, targeting the turret and all the rescue equipment. They dismantled the posts and ropes for entering the water, messed up the lookout booth and made the lifeguard's chair disappear. Furthermore, the flag pole and an umbrella were broken along with the oars of the boat used for the rescue activity.

«I had to spend two hours rearranging everything. It has become difficult to operate in these conditions", comments Michele Maddau, lifeguard for Salias Service, the company that operates the beach. Also around were burnt handkerchiefs and cigarette butts piled up.
In recent days it was Serena Cotti, president of the Ad Snorkeling Academy, the sports club that teaches water sports on the beach, who denounced the seriousness of the situation. Threats, insults and throwing stones and sand at swimmers. And on the need to increase controls, the municipal administration "has every interest in keeping a high level of attention on the city beaches by not underestimating the reports of uncivilized behavior carried out by some young people who frequent the coasts", declared the mayor Massimo Mulas, " for this reason we have already implemented checks by our agents and agreed with the other local law enforcement agencies to support them in surveillance activities. We reiterate once again our firm condemnation of disrespectful conduct on the part of those few who disturb the peace of our beaches frequented, for the vast majority, by calm and polite people and we remind the youngest but also adults that being part of a community also means sharing rules and respecting those around us."
The topic had also been raised in the city council by the group leader of Porto Torres Avanti, Bastianino Spanu, who had asked for attention to be paid to the beach "at the mercy of a group of thugs who are putting at risk the serenity of the users of the Balai beach, hostage of a group of kids who make the beach day impossible for elderly people and families. I ask to ban entry into the green areas surrounding the beach, used for drug dealing, gangs that must be stopped immediately with greater controls and vigilance."
